LABORDA.CBS 09/06/04 7:46 AM-DLR 1:24 Will the undecideds please stand up! This is Dave Ross on the CBS Radio Network. For those of you who've actually followed politics all summer, the political season already seems interminable. But the experts will tell you that most Americans don't really start paying attention until after Labor Day. So here it is - Labor Day - time to start paying attention. Except the experts also say there are relatively few voters who haven't made up their minds - and if that's true, I'm not sure what the actual result of paying all that attention will be ... beyond a growing level of annoyance at the sheer number of mailings and phone calls and commercials. You know how it goes - by the middle of October you feel like a reporter standing in a hurricane. And for what? All that expensive propaganda, just to change the mind of that one guy down the block who still refuses to put up anybody's sign. THEY'RE the problem. Those undecided voters. They're scattered all over the country, flip-flopping whenever they want, and they're screwing up the whole process! We've had two major political conventions, but face it - the conventions are held for the wrong people. They were both full of people who were already convinced. They knew exactly which sign to hold up, and when. It was like watching a drill team. What you need is a convention of the UNCONVINCED. But that'll never happen, so please - would all the undecided voters just identify themselves now? Have the common decency to turn in your names and phone numbers so the candidates don't have to call ALL of us, and we can get a little peace between now and November. Thank you. Now this. ~C:\works\files\LABORDA.CBS
