Do I detect nastiness creeping into this campaign?   This is Dave Ross on the CBS Radio Network.
The last anti-Kerry ad is pretty nasty:
TAPE:  "I served with John Kerry.  I served with John Kerry.  John Kerry has not been honest about what happened in Vietnam.  He is lying about his record."
The ad was produced by a group called Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, and features Vietnam vets who say they served with John Kerry:
TAPE:  "I know John Kerry is lying about his first Purple Heart because I treated him for that injury.  John Kerry lied about his Bronze Star.  I know; I was there; I saw it happen."
The trouble, according to Kerry's lawyers, is that none of the men in the ad who claim to have served with Kerry was actually on his Swiftboat.  The ad's been condemned by Republican senator and fellow Vietnam vet John McCain.  But the ad's defenders reply the men in the ad never claimed to have actually served on Kerry's BOAT, they only say the served WITH Kerry.
TAPE: "I served with John Kerry"
I don't know who's right - just a note to injured vets who plan to run for office:  your service can and will be used against you. 
Meantime, Kerry took a jab of his own, telling an audience what HE would have done, had HE been reading My Pet Goat to a class of Florida School children on September 11th:
But of course if Kerry HAD done that, you can imagine the ads:
"Kerry Opposes Youth Literacy."
Now this.
