CARTER.CBS 07/27/04 7:31 AM-DLR 1:19 Where is the decency? This is Dave Ross on the CBS Radio Network. The Democratic convention is in its second day now, and I read in a couple of articles that the word had gone out loud and clear. No Bush Bashing. Any attacks on the President were supposed to be ... muted. And for the most part, they were. Al Gore didn't shout; Hillary made no mention of the vast right-wing conspiracy; Bill Clinton was all sunshine. But there was one guy: "My name is Jimmy Carter, and I am NOT running for President." Yeah - that guy - you could tell that something was bothering him: "All this good will has been squandered by a virtually unbroken series of mistakes and miscalculations." I began picking up some negative vibes from his speech: "The united states has alienated its allies, dismayed its friends, and inadvertently gratified its enemies." See, can you feel it? There was just something there that told me, he was ready to break format and bash Bush. "We cannot maintain our historic self confidence as a people if we generate public panic." OK, Time Out, that's a CLEAR bash. There has been no deliberate attempt at panic. Just sober warnings that al Qaeda could strike at any time by land sea and air. And by coming up through the sewers. If you just remember to put the seat down, you'll be fine "We cannot LEAD if our leaders MISLEAD" There he goes AGAIN! "What America needs is leadership." And again. Doesn't the FCC have rules about censoring things that would frighten small children? Let's try that again. "What America needs is BEEEEP." Thank you. Now this. ~C:\works\files\CARTER.CBS
